Minneha Township Bond Election

The following information was provided to Eastborough City Hall by Minneha Township regarding the Bond Election Ballot that was delivered by mail to most residents this week:

50 Saint Cloud Place
Wichita, Kansas 67230

Dear Minneha Township Residents:

You either have received, or will soon receive, a mail ballot on a proposal of your Township Board to issue general obligation bonds to build and equip a building to serve the Township and its residents. Here's why we are proposing this investment.

Currently the Township leases space to house its equipment which includes large road maintenance machines, street sweepers, etc. There are a number of drawbacks to the leasing arrangement:

  1. The leased property is situated in Andover, a substantial distance from our service area causing loss of travel time and increasing fuel costs.
  2. The property is leased to us on a month-to-month basis.
  3. Because of the location of the property, we are restricted in our hours of operation which could interfere with emergency snow removal and other services in night time hours.

We have acquired a building site south of Central and Greenwich Road. Plans have been prepared to house our equipment in a building which would also include a public meeting room for Minneha residents.

This can be financed by issuance of $700,000.00 in general obligation bonds with no increase whatsoever in the mill levy due in part to the savings set forth below.

If the proposal is adopted in the mail ballot:

  1. The Township would own the facility and not be subject to rent increases and use restrictions imposed in the typical lease.
  2. The location is central in our service area, conserving labor time and fuel costs.

Questions may be directed to Don Gragg at 733-9099

The Eastborough Police Department would like to let everyone know that around the upcoming July 4th holiday, the emergency lines are flooded with calls concerning noise and fireworks complaints.

Since the Eastborough Police are dispatched by Sedgwick County Emergency Communications I would like to remind everyone that again this year there will be a special non-emergency line available to report noise and fireworks complaints. The non-emergency line will be staffed during the following days and times.

Saturday July 1st at 6:30 PM through Sunday July 2nd at 3:00 AM
Sunday July 2nd at 6:30 PM through Monday July 3rd at 3:00 AM
Monday July 3rd at 6:30 PM through Tuesday July 4th at 3:00 AM
Tuesday July 4th at 6:30 PM through Wednesday July 5th at 3:00 AM

The number to report noise and fireworks complaints is (316) 290-1011

To report any emergency, you will still need to call 911. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or one of my officers. Have a safe and happy holiday.
