Eastborough Crime Scene

In an effort to keep the community better informed on criminal activity, look for a new section in the Police Department's page on Eastborough's web site called "Crime Scene" that will highlight crime in Eastborough on a monthly basis. In this section you will find information informing you of types of crimes reported along with where and when it occurred.

March 2017

THEFT

On 02/28/17 Sgt. Halverson noticed the bronze sun dial missing from a pedestal in the City Park. It was not located anywhere in the vicinity.

MV-MV-IA-OVER

Sgt. Halverson investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Stratford on 3/3/17. An unknown vehicle made a lane change causing a motorcycle driver to take evasive action, laying his bike down. He refused treatment or transport by EMS and had only minor injuries. The other vehicle did not stop and was not located.

MV-MV-NIA-UNDER

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury accident at Douglas and Woodlawn on 3/8/17. Both drivers claimed to have the right of way. No witnesses were on scene. Only one car had very minor damage.

BURG. FROM AUTO

A resident on Mission reported on 3/13/17 unknown person(s) breaking a window of a vehicle and stealing property. Photos and evidence was collected.

EVADE & ELUDE

Sgt. Halverson attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on 3/17/17. The driver refused to stop which resulted in a short chase. The chase ended when the suspect failed to negotiate a turn and crashed into a house in the 5100 block of East Douglas. The suspect was arrested and booked into the County Jail on charges of Auto Theft, Flee & Elude and other traffic charges. The case was presented to the District Attorney's Office which resulted in felony charges against the suspect.

Sgt. Dorritie reported finding graffiti painted on the wall in the City Park by Drury Lane on 1/23/17. Tree Top Land Scaping was able to remove it.

A resident on Highland RD. reported on 1/28/17 unknown person(s) breaking into a storage POD in his driveway and stealing numerous items. Investigation is underway.

A resident on Highland RD reported on 1/29/17 unknown person(s) breaking into his residence and stealing several items. Investigation is underway.

A resident reported falling on 1/22/17 while walking on the walking path in the City Park by Drury St. EMS transported her to Wesley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

THEFT

A resident on Peachtree reports possible known suspect taking medication from his residence on 11/24/16.

MV-FO-NIA-OVER

A resident on Peachtree reported on 12/9/16 that she and her dog were bitten by a loose dog on 12/8/16. Dog was found to be current on Rabies Vaccination and was quarantined for 10-day observation period. No charges filed on request of victim.

THEFT

Sgt. Halverson took a report on 10/30/16 of unknown person(s) taking a trash cart belonging to the City of Eastborough from the City Park.

MV-FO-NIA-OVER

Sgt. Dorritie investigated a non-injury one vehicle accident at 400 S. Woodlawn on 10/31/16. The driver had struck a curb disabling the car.

MV-MV-IA-OVER

Sgt. Halverson investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 11/2/16. One driver was taken to St. Francis Hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries. Two witnesses and the other driver admitted to running a red light. She was cited for Run Red Light. One vehicle was towed.

Sgt. Dorritie investigated a non-injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 11/4/16. One driver was cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way and Driving While Suspended. Both vehicles were towed.

FOUND PROPERTY

Officer Hiser turned in a bag with clothing, dishes and 2 VHS tapes that was found at Stratford & Lynnwood area on 11/11/16.

Officer Vickery investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Highland on 11/15/16. The driver had hit a utility pole and the car overturned onto its side. EMS examined the driver who refused transport. He was cited for Inattentive Driving. The vehicle was towed away.

Sgt. Halverson investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 10/6/16. One driver was checked by EMS but refused transport to a hospital. The other driver was cited for Run Red Light. Both vehicles were towed away.

MV-MV-NIA-OVER

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury accident at 200 S. Woodlawn on 10/10/16. It was determined that one vehicle lost a front wheel which caused the driver to lose control and sideswiped another car travelling in the opposite direction. Both vehicles were towed away. No citations were issued.

Sgt. Halverson investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 10/19/16. A juvenile passenger was examined by EMS but did not need to be taken to a hospital. One driver was cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way. Both vehicles were towed away.

Officer Hiser investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 10/22/16. Patients were examined by EMS but refused transport to a hospital. One driver was cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way. Both vehicles were towed away.

THEFT

A resident on St. James reported on 10/24/16 of unknown person(s) stealing 2 campaign signs from his yard between 10/23/16 and 10/24/16. Sgt. Halverson is investigating whether the theft is connected to others in the Eastborough area.

September 2016

BURGLARY TO AUTO

A home health nurse reported on 8/22/16 unknown person(s) entered her unlocked vehicle on St. James between 8/19/16 and 8/20/16 and stole her purse with contents.

MISC. REPORT

Officer Erwin took a report on 9/2/16 of two neighbors on Colonial Court having a verbal dispute over the property line. No criminal activity took place.

IMPOUND/FOUND PROPERTY

Officer Erwin impounded an unattended vehicle which was blocking traffic at 6200 E. Douglas on 09/19/16. While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, some drug paraphernalia was found and submitted into Property and Evidence.

SUDDEN DEATH

Sgt. Dorritie and Chief Cox responded with Wichita Fire and EMS to an address on Peachtree on 09/19/16 for an unresponsive patient. Fire and EMS attempted to revive with no results. They pronounced the man dead. The County Coroner released the body to a mortuary.

Misc. Report

Chief Cox, Officer Hiser and Sgt. Dorritie found a dementia patient who had ran away from a care home on 9/19/16. She was taken to St. Joseph hospital for treatment/placement to another facility.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 9/21/16. One driver was cited for Inattentive Driving. One vehicle was drivable while the other needed towed.

OUTSIDE ASSIST

Sgt. Dorritie spotted a suspect vehicle at Woodlawn Kellogg from an Abduction case in Wichita on 9/25/16. He attempted to stop the car and a short chase ensued until the driver fled from the car. The passenger was taken into custody and turned over to Wichita Police. The driver was identified and will be arrested when located.

A resident on Hillcrest reported on 7/25/16 an unknown person(s) entered his vehicle and took his wallet. An unk. b/m attempted to use his credit card at a convenience store that morning. Video was obtained and Sgt. Halverson is attempting to ID the suspect.

Chief Cox investigated an injury rear end collision at 100 N. Woodlawn on 7/7/16. One driver was examined by EMS but refused transport. The other driver was cited for Following Too Closely.

FOUND PROPERTY

A circular saw was found at Douglas & Woodlawn on 7/11/16. It was submitted as Found Property.

Chief Cox investigated an injury accident at 200 N. Woodlawn on 7/12/16. One driver was examined by EMS but refused transport. One driver was cited for Following Too Closely. Two vehicles were driven from the scene while the 3rd had to be towed.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident reported on 6/4/16 unknown person(s) using his identity to obtain merchandise and an open line of credit. Investigation is underway.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury wreck at 100 N. Woodlawn on 6/14/16. One driver was cited for Inattentive Driving. Both vehicles were drivable

MV-MV-IA-OVERTURN

Sgt. Halverson investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 6/20/16. Several witnesses said a northbound vehicle ran the red light and broadsided an eastbound vehicle causing it to overturn. The driver of the overturned vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and only received minor injuries not requiring transport to the hospital. The other driver was cited for Running a Red Light. Both vehicles were towed away.

FOUND PROPERTY

Sgt. Halverson submitted a 3 section wooden box that was found in the street by Mission & Douglas on 6/15/16.

SUICIDAL SUBJECT

Officer Hiser received a call of a possible suicidal subject on 04/29/16 but could not locate him. On 04/30/16 Sgt. Halverson located the subject at Bob Dole V.A. Hospital where he was receiving care.

Sgt. Halverson investigated an injury accident at 300 S. Woodlawn on 04/29/16. One driver refused transport from EMS and was treated on scene. He was cited for Following Too Closely and No Proof of Insurance. One car was towed and the other one was still drivable.

OUTSIDE ASSIST

Officer Erwin assisted WPD with a disturbance involving a weapon in the 500 block of N. Rock Rd. on 04/07/16. He took a suspect into custody and located a gun. Suspect and gun were turned over to WPD.

MV-MV-IA-OVER

Sgt. Dorritie investigated an injury accident at Douglas and Woodlawn on 04/08/16. Two people were treated at the scene and refused transport from EMS. Two vehicles were towed away while the 3rd vehicle was still drivable.

MV-FO-H&R

Officer Vickery took a report of a vehicle knocking down a mailbox on Peachtree then leaving the scene on 04/15/16. There were no witnesses or enough evidence left at the scene to locate the run vehicle.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Sgt. Dorritie and Officer Hiser were dispatched to a Domestic Violence call on Stratford on 04/19/16. Officer Hiser arrested a woman and booked her into Sedgwick Co. Jail for Domestic Battery and Criminal Damage to Property

OUTSIDE ASSIST

Officer Erwin assisted WPD on 04/22/16 at the East Station by testing a DUI suspect on the Intoxilyzer. The subject's test result was .223.

FRAUD ATTEMPT

A citizen reported on 04/22/16 of receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be a Sheriff Deputy trying to obtain personal information. Officer Hiser determined that the Sheriff's Office is working several similar cases. The case was forwarded to Sedgwick County Sheriff Detective to be presented to the U.S. Attorney.

A citizen on Stratford reported unknown person(s) taking property from his vehicle via an open window on 3/4/16.

Officer Erwin investigated an injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 3/14/16. One driver refused treatment. A passenger was treated for minor injuries on scene. Both vehicles were towed away.

NARCOTICS VIOLATION

Officer Erwin stopped a car for speeding on 3/19/16 and smelled marijuana when contacting the driver. A search was conducted and drugs were found. The driver was charged with Possession of Marijuana & Possession of Paraphernalia. A passenger was arrested and booked in Jail for Poss. of Marijuana, Poss. of Paraphernalia and Poss. Of Controlled Substances Without a Prescription.

Sgt. Halverson received a report of a hit & run accident that occurred on 01/26/16. The run driver was located within two days. He was charged with Following Too Closely & Leaving the Scene of an Non-Injury Accident.

THEFT OF LOST PROPERTY

A citizen reported on 01/27/16 leaving a chainsaw in the 200 block of N. Woodlawn. When he went back, it was gone. Property entered into NCIC.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury accident at 100 N. Woodlawn on 01/28/16. One driver was cited for Inattentive Driving. Both vehicles were drivable.

A citizen found a book and a cell phone in the City Park on 01/30/16 and turned it over to Officer Hiser who submitted it to Property & Evidence.

AUTO THEFT

A resident on Peachtree reported unknown person(s) stealing a motorcycle from his driveway on the morning of 12/24/15. Vehicle was entered into NCIC and surrounding agencies were notified to be on the lookout.

Sergeant Halverson investigated a one car accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 12/30/15. The driver had fell asleep at the wheel, ran a red light and struck a curb, disabling the car. He was cited for Run Red Light / Drive While Suspended and No Proof of Insurance. Car was towed away.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Officer Erwin responded to a DV call on Mission on 01/10/16. It was verbal only and there were no injuries. One party left the residence. No arrests were made.

Officer Erwin investigated a rear end collision at 300 S. Woodlawn on 1/13/16. One driver was cited for Inattentive Driving. Both vehicles were towed away.

AUTO BURGLARY

A resident on Drury reports unknown person(s) entering his unlocked car on 1/18/16. There was no damage and nothing missing, but a knife had been left at the scene. Sgt. Halverson collected the knife and submitted it to Property and Evidence.

Officer Erwin assisted WPD on an armed robbery at Lincoln & Woodlawn on 12/3/15. While checking the area he found two suspects and took them into custody. They were turned over to WPD.

Officer Hiser investigated a 4 car Injury accident at Douglas & Woodlawn on 12/4/15. One driver was examined by EMS at the scene and refused transport. One driver was cited for Running a Red Light and another driver was cited for No Proof of Insurance.

IDENTITY THEFT

Sgt. Dorritie was notified by Reno County S.O. Detective Post of locating items of evidence indicating possible Identity Theft & related Fraud cases involving several Eastborough & Wichita victims. Two suspects are in Custody in Reno County. Several agencies from Kansas, Illinois and Secret Service are working together on these cases. U.S. Attorney will review the cases.

SICK & CARED FOR

A resident on Peachtree reported having abdominal pain On 12/19/2015. He was taken to St, Francis Hospital by EMS in serious condition.

Sgt. Halverson found a Graco stroller, a child's cup and a combination padlock in the City Park on 11/9/15. Items were placed in Property & Evidence.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury crash at 100 N. Woodlawn on 11/10/15. Both drivers had gone to Wichita P.D. East Station to make the report.

Officer Hiser investigated a non-injury accident at 400 S. Woodlawn on 11/11/15. One driver was cited for Inattentive Driving.

POSS. MARIJUANA

Officer Erwin stopped a car for speeding on 11/15/15. He smelled burnt marijuana upon contact with the occupants. Alcohol was also found in the vehicle. 2 minors were arrested and 2 minors were taken to Wichita Children's Home. An adult in the car was cited for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Officer Hiser investigated an injury accident at 100 N. Woodlawn on 11/17/15. An adult and a 5 year old child were taken to Wesley Medical Center by EMS with non-life threatening injuries. One driver was cited for Following Too Closely. The other driver was cited for Child Restraint Violation.

FRAUD

A resident reported on 11/19/15 unknown person(s) making purchases from his checking account without his knowledge. Loss is over $5,700. Investigation is being conducted.

FOUND PROPERTY

Sgt. Halverson found a box containing boring bits in the area of Norfolk and Stratford on 11/19/15. Items were submitted to Property & Evidence.

THEFT

A guest at a wedding reception on Norfolk reported someone stealing her unattended purse and contents on 9/27/15. Two iPhones were recovered later that evening by WPD at a residence in Wichita. Investigation is underway.

THEFT

A resident on Lakeside reported unknown person(s) stealing a tandem bicycle on 10/17/15. Property was entered into NCIC computer as stolen.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury accident at 100 S. Woodlawn on 10/21/15. One driver was cited for Unsafe Lane Change. The other driver was cited for No Proof of Insurance.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

A woman reported being assaulted by her estranged husband on Huntington on 10/26/15. She was taken to Wesley Medical Center by EMS, where she was treated and released. Officer Erwin arrested the man and booked him into Sedgwick County Jail for Domestic Battery.

OUTSIDE ASSIST

Chief Cox and Sgt. Dorritie responded to Towne East Mall for a possible wanted person on 08/25/15. Sgt. Dorritie located the suspect, who was wanted for attempted murder, in Newton, KS and arrested him without incident.

MV-FO-NIA-H&R

Sgt. Dorritie observed a suspect attempting to elude WPD at Douglas & Norfolk on 8/28/15. The suspect hit a curb then fled on foot. Sgt. Dorritie gave chase and arrested the suspect in the backyard of 126 N. Patton.

FOUND PROPERTY

A bracelet was found in the City Park on 8/25/15 and submitted to Property and Evidence.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident reported on 8/29/15 unknown person(s) obtained a credit card in his name and made several purchases. Sgt. Dorritie is investigating.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury wreck at 100 N. Woodlawn on 8/31/15. One driver was cited for Unsafe Lane Change, No Proof of Insurance and Drive While Suspended

SUSPICIOUS CHARACTER

Officer Hiser stopped a subject on Mission carrying a golf bag and clubs at 1 AM on 9/2/15. He was arrested on a warrant through WPD and the golf equipment was turned into Property and Evidence. It was later determined that the clubs were taken in a burglary (Case # 15-187). The case will be presented to the DA to file charges.

FORGERY

A resident reported on 9/3/15 a possible known suspect forging checks from her account. Sgt. Dorritie investigated and made an arrest. District Attorney is charging the suspect with 9 counts of Forgery.

BATTERY

A woman reported being battered by her boyfriend on 9/4/15 at Woodlawn & Peachtree. She did have visible injuries and was taken to the hospital by EMS. The male was located later. He was charged with battery and given a court date.

SUICIDE

A resident reports finding his brother deceased on 9/7/15. Sgt. Dorritie and the County Coroner investigated the scene and determined he intentionally overdosed on medication

Sgt. Dorritie investigated a non-injury accident at Mission and Douglas on 9/12/15. One driver was cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way at a Stop Sign.

CRIMINAL USE OF FINANCIAL CARD

A resident reported on 9/13/15 unknown person(s) using a credit card without authorization. Investigation is ongoing.

BURGLARY AUTO/THEFT

A resident reported a burglary to auto and theft of golf clubs occurring on 9/2/15. Case is going to be presented to the District Attorney for charges.

THEFT

Officer Hiser discovered on 8/6/15 that unknown person(s) had removed the street sign for High Drive at High Drive and Norfolk. No evidence was found at the scene.

MV-FO-HIT & RUN

Officer Hiser discovered on 8/6/15 that an unknown vehicle had hit a stop sign at Colonial Ct. & Woodlawn. No evidence was found at the scene.

SUDDEN DEATH

A caretaker reported on 6/25/15 finding her employer deceased when she arrived for work. Sgt. Dorritie investigated and determined the death was by natural causes. Body was released by the County Coroner to mortuary.

Sgt. Halverson investigated a non-injury accident at Norfolk & Woodlawn on 7/10/15. One driver was cited for Improper Backing.

SICK & CARED FOR

A resident on Douglas reported having a possible heart attack on 7/15/15. EMS took him to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition.

An owner of a cleaning company reported an employee stealing money from her on 12/15/14 while working in Eastborough. She had fired the employee and did not want to prosecute but needed a police report in order to contest unemployment benefits requested by the employee.

Sgt. Halverson stopped a vehicle for speeding on 02/16/15. Upon contact with the violator, Sgt. Halverson smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the car, finding marijuana. The driver also had a suspended DL.

AUTO THEFT

On 06/27/14 a pizza delivery person reported that while she was delivering a pizza to a local resident, an unknown white male got into her car and drove off. Vehicle was recovered on 07/07/14 by WPD and returned to the owner.

On 06/29/14 Capt. Cross reports coming across The scene of a hit & run accident. The driver had hit a mailbox and a utility pole and did not stop to report the accident. Officer Halverson was contacted by Harvey County that they had a vehicle matching the description. Officer Halverson was able to collect evidence from the wreck and match it to the vehicle that Harvey County had. Driver was cited for failure to report accident & leaving the scene of an accident.

AGG. BURGLARY

On 6/2/14 Capt. Cross saw a suspicious vehicle on Lakeside Blvd. While attempting to catch up to the car, the driver jumped out and ran away. WPD assisted but could not locate the suspect. It was discovered later that the suspect had apparently stolen a DL from an unlocked car. Victim was given an Identity Theft packet.

AGG. BURGLARY

On 6/2/14 a resident on Mission Rd. reported his vehicle stolen, which was unlocked and the keys were left in it. Possible suspect from above case. Sedgwick County SO recovered this vehicle on 6/8/14. Officer Dorritie obtained a search warrant for the residence where the car was located. SO assisted with the warrant and recovered the keys to the car, but did not locate the suspect. Both cases are being reviewed by the District Attorney for possible charges.

Officer investigated a case of an Eastborough resident that was contacted by an individual claiming to be a grandson that was in legal trouble in Canada and needed money for attorney fees. The victim wired over $10,000 before discovering they were being scammed.

Officer took the report of an unknown white male, approximately 30 years of age, with brown hair, approximately 5'10" in height driving an unknown make, black, mid-sized car approaching a juvenile female and asking her to help put his dog in the car. The dog was described as looking like a huskey and being tan in color. This occurred in the area of Norfolk and Mission.
